How can you make a difference?

  • Children’s right to birth registration is enshrined in article 7 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Birth registration is recognized as a social equalizer, as it establishes the existence of a person under the law. Digitization of birth registration will help expand the reach and accelerate the pace of birth registration services and advance interoperability between civil registration and other social programmes. Hence, the provision of a legal identity will reduce inequity by giving the registered children access to essential services e.g., child protection, health care and education – thus helping secure their most fundamental rights.
  • UNICEF, together with other agencies and organizations, has long played a critical advisory and supportive role in relation to technical solutions, financial contributions, and expert advice to advance the digitization of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) systems.
